Architecture and Love of Travel

I dislike sameness.  Routine. Schedule. Things that are repeated day after day.  It makes time go by so quickly that, without the phone and pictures taken, there would not be a tangible, visible record of the time that has gone by.

I love to travel.  More than just a passion, I need to travel. I need it like the air.   Traveling offers a different perspective. Inspires creativity, recharges energy, and revives emotions.  When GPS devices first became popular, I resisted getting one.  When asked why?  I always answered because I tend to discover new places when I get lost, which I wouldn’t have found otherwise.  GPS guides you exactly where you want to go to a place you already knew existed – in your mind. However,  to find yourself in an unfamiliar place you never heard of or couldn’t have imagined is an entirely different experience. Apart from a malfunctioning GPS, we generally don’t get lost, at least not physically.

Designing a structure, particularly a home, could be compared to traveling. You can have a preset specific structure in mind, but it is always good to allow for the possibility of sidetracking and let yourself open to a surprise. Allow yourself to get lost.  When observing a mass development, one might think how wonderful it would have been if the developers allowed themselves to get lost.
